Tipping at All-Inclusive Resorts: How Much and When

AllInclusive411 Editorial March 22, 2026

Is Tipping Expected?

Short answer: it depends on the resort and destination. At most all-inclusive resorts, tipping is not required but is appreciated. Your room rate covers staff wages, but a small tip for exceptional service goes a long way.

Some resorts (like Sandals) have strict no-tipping policies. Others actively encourage it. Check your resort's policy before you go.

General Tipping Guidelines

  • Housekeeping: $2-5/day, left on the pillow or nightstand
  • Bartenders: $1-2 per drink for exceptional service
  • Wait staff: $2-5 per meal at sit-down restaurants
  • Room service: $2-3 per delivery
  • Pool/beach attendants: $1-2 for setting up chairs, bringing towels
  • Bellhop: $1-2 per bag
  • Excursion guides: $5-10 per person for half-day tours

By Destination

Mexico: Tipping is deeply ingrained in the culture. Tips are expected and appreciated. $1-5 USD per interaction is standard.

Dominican Republic: Similar to Mexico. Small tips in USD are welcomed.

Jamaica: Varies by resort. Sandals is no-tipping. Others expect it.

Aruba/Curacao: Less expected but appreciated. Service charges are often included.

Pro Tips

Bring small bills ($1s and $5s in USD). Tip early in your stay - staff will remember you. And always tip in cash, not on your room bill, so it goes directly to the person who earned it.
